The Family Disciple Me Podcast // Discipleship Starts With a Conversation

Welcome to Season Six of the FDM Podcast: Empty Nest, Full Purpose | An FDM Update

Tosha Williams for FDM Season 6 Episode 1

Life's seasons change, but purpose endures. As I (Tosha Williams) launch Season Six (!!!!) of the Family Disciple Me podcast, I'm also entering a new personal chapter—my youngest just turned 18, marking the end of almost three decades of active parenting. This transition feels monumental yet clarifying: though my daily routines will transform, my fundamental mission remains steadfast.

From childhood through parenthood and now approaching empty-nester status, my north star has been consistent: knowing Christ and making Him known. This simple yet profound purpose—what we at Family Disciple Me call "seek Him, speak Him"—transcends life stages and circumstances. Whether you're raising young children, launching adults, or entering grandparenthood, discipleship adapts while its essence remains unchanged.

May brings our eighth annual prayer-focused conversation series, "The Plugged In Prayer Life," and our ministry continues developing a discipleship app, hopefully launching by year's end. But remember—discipleship doesn't require advanced tools; it starts with simple conversation. Jesus walks with us, His power flowing through us, His presence guiding our way. Whatever your current life season, embrace the conversations that matter most. Because when every believer steps up to seek and speak Christ, the world changes one relationship at a time. Will you join this journey today?

Speaker 1:

It's hard to believe, but here we are, starting season number six of the Family Disciple Me podcast. I am so excited about what's in store for us. I always feel so excited about what's in store for us. But as we get started with this new season, I wanted to give you just a little bit of background and share with you for just a couple of moments about what I see ahead of us. God is good. He continues to open doors for this ministry, but he also continues to work in our hearts. And well, I thought that the beginning of season six would be a great time to give you an update. Well, yesterday was a huge day at my house. My husband and I have five children, and yesterday our youngest turned 18. She's officially an adult, and for us that marks the completion of over 28 years of pregnancy and child rearing. So here I am. Today is a whole new season as well. We're about to be empty nesters. Journey Grace is going to be home for a few more months before she leaves for college, but there's something really significant about the closure that we had yesterday and well, the new beginnings that start today.

Speaker 1:

My life is about to look very different than it has looked in the past almost three decades and yet, I have to say, my purpose is still the same. My goal, ever since I was a child, ever since I was a teenager, is to know Christ. I want to know Christ, but more and more and more as the years and the decades. Now, as the seasons have come and go, more and more my goal isn't just to know Christ, as amazing of a goal as that is. My goal is to know Christ and to make Him known. For me, personally, I sum that up as meet with God and make Him known, and really that's the heart of the Family Disciple Me ministry.

Speaker 1:

My sweet Journey, grace, who turned 18 yesterday. Her life has been marked by the seasons of the Family Disciple Me ministry. She was only about 10 years old when I first began to see the vision for this ministry, and every step along the way she has been impacted by this, whether it was the sacrifice for this, or the writing of this, or the memorization of scripture, or going to conferences and telling other people about this, or helping me edit, or, as she's gotten older, helping me brainstorm about this. She's grown up now. She'll graduate in a couple weeks from high school and then she'll be going off to college and the way that it looks for me to meet with God, then make him known in her life is going to look different than it's looked in the past 10 years, 18 years, really. Just like it looks different now that my other kids are grown up. But here's the thing wherever I am in this journey of parenting, or now grandparenting, or leading or serving, the goal remains the same I want to know Christ and make him known. I want to meet with God and help others meet with him too. I want to to use the catchphrase of the Family Disciple Me ministry I want to seek him, speak him and friend. Wherever you are in your journey, I encourage you to do the same. Sometimes that's intimidating, though I get it. Sometimes I feel intimidated too, and that's why we have the Family Disciple Me ministry.

Speaker 1:

So here's what's ahead this month. As we dive into May, we are going to be presenting our eighth annual May you Pray series of conversations. Did you hear that? It's our eighth annual May you Pray series? That is one of the most consistent traditions of the Family Disciple Me ministry, and this month I invite you into a collection of conversations that I call the Plugged In Prayer Life. I encourage you to listen to the podcast and just think about the things that I share in it. It's not everything that could be said about the matter, but it's just enough to get your thoughts going. And then I encourage you to spend some time with Jesus in the Coordinating Conversation Guide. Encourage you to spend some time with Jesus in the Coordinating Conversation Guide.

Speaker 1:

The Plugged In Prayer Life series is one that has been resonating in and impacting my own heart for about three or four years now, so I'm really delighted to get to share it with you, and I encourage you to meet with God in this series. Look at his word, listen to what he says to you through this series, through his word, through the things that are shared, and then turn around. Don't just seek him. Turn around and speak him about this series. Invite somebody else into the plugged-in prayer life with you. That's what I'm doing. I believe that this is powerful and has great impact. So that's one thing that's on the docket for the Family Disciple Me ministry as we start here, with season number six Also coming up in June, I'm so excited that we have a new series coming called the Great King.

Speaker 1:

Have you seen the movie Mufasa. Yet Well, I think that that is one of the best movies that's come out in quite a while, because it is an amazing bridge to teach the next generation about not just a great king like the Lion King, but to teach them about the great king, and that is King Jesus. That will be a conversation collection that you can use to spend time meeting with God in your own life and then turning around and making him known to those entrusted to you. Oh, friend, there's so many pieces and parts to all this, but I know a big question that keeps being asked is the question what about the Family Disciple Me app? Well, I'm so glad you asked because, well, it is coming along. We are steadily making progress and I am so grateful for the partners and ministry that God has brought alongside this ministry so that we can create this powerful, devotion-driven discipleship tool. I don't have an exact target date yet, but we are getting close. Personally, I'm hoping by year's end we're going to have that to be able to share with you, maybe for a Christmas present. We'll see.

Speaker 1:

All told, discipleship doesn't start with an app. It doesn't start with a podcast or a conversation series. Discipleship starts with a conversation. Discipleship starts with a conversation that we individually have with Jesus, with our Savior, as we grow closer to Him, as we know Christ better. And then discipleship continues when we make Him known to others, when we speak Him. All these amazing things podcasts, apps, online conversation, guides, websites these are all tools to accomplish the great purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission.

Speaker 1:

You see, I believe the Family Disciple Me ministry believes that that is something that every single one of us who has a real relationship with Jesus can do. So what does that look like in your life? What does it look like in my life? I believe that this world will be impacted for Jesus when every single one of us who has a real relationship with him steps up to the plate and says I'm going to seek him, speak him. Oh friend, thank you for joining me in this journey. So much ahead of us, so much history behind us, but all the way we have gotten to walk this journey with Jesus, I am so thankful that he is with us, that his power is flowing through us, his presence is guiding us, his provision is abundantly showering upon us. I pray that today, wherever you are in your journey, that you too will be encouraged, challenged and blessed. Oh friend, go in Jesus' name today. Remember, discipleship starts with a conversation, so skip the intimidation and get straight to the conversation today. Until next time, be encouraged.
