The Family Disciple Me Podcast // Discipleship Starts With a Conversation
Seek Him Speak Him | Where Devotion Becomes Discipleship | Convo #1: Marked By Christ's Presence
What are you known for—your job, your strengths, your quirks? In this episode, we dig into a different kind of reputation, the kind Acts 4:13 highlights when leaders recognized Peter and John had been with Jesus. Their courage didn’t come from status or training; it flowed from their relationship with Him. As we walk through Acts 3–4, we follow the moment a lame man stood, a crowd gathered, and two ordinary fishermen stood firm before the Sanhedrin with Spirit-given clarity.
We share a simple, life-giving rhythm that anchors everything we do at Family Disciple Me: Seek Him Speak Him. Seek Him means opening Scripture, asking honest questions, and lingering with God until His Word meets your life. Speak Him means letting that fresh encounter overflow into conversations with the people God has entrusted to you—kids, friends, roommates, neighbors. No scripts. No pressure. Just the natural spillover of time with Jesus. Along the way, we connect this rhythm with Philippians 1:20, naming a vision for unashamed boldness that holds steady under pressure and shines in ordinary moments.
If you’ve ever felt too common, too busy, or too underqualified to make a spiritual impact, this conversation reframes the story. God uses ordinary people. Presence becomes courage. Devotion becomes discipleship. By the end, you’ll have practical next steps for opening the Bible, listening for God’s voice, and carrying that truth into simple, meaningful conversations that shape homes, friendships, and communities.
Ready to be known for time with Jesus—and to make Him known? Listen now, share this with someone who needs courage today, and subscribe for more devotion-driven discipleship. If this encouraged you, leave a review and tell us the one step you’ll take this week to seek Him and speak Him.

What are you known for? I mean, when people think about you, what comes to mind? We're often known for things like our jobs or our roles, our personalities, our talents, our abilities. Sometimes we're known for our habits or maybe even for our quirks. The truth is, we're all known for something. All of us have a reputation. But what do you actually want to be known for? If you're a Christ follower, what do you most hope marks your life? I wonder, what if the deepest, truest, most important thing about you for which you're known isn't what you've achieved or what you've done, but is the fact that you've spent time with Jesus. With that, I want to welcome you into the Family Disciple Me Ministry. Hi, my name is Tasha Williams, and I'm the founder and the executive director of this ministry. And well, in this episode, I get to be your guide as we welcome you into this conversation collection that we call Seek Him Speak Him. You may be a mom or a dad, a grandma or a grandpa, an auntie or an uncle, a big sister, brother. You may be a college roommate, a friend, a teenager, you may be young, you may be old, you may be a new Christian or a longtime believer. But here's what I know about this conversation collection that we're entering today. All of us will live lives that are forever changed, both for here and for eternity, when we enter into this rhythm that we call seek him, speak him. And that's what we're going to talk about today. And we're going to start by looking at scripture in Acts chapter three, and then we're going to go into Acts chapter four. When we seek him, speak him, we always want to start with Scripture. And so as we look at Acts chapter three, we pick up with the story of two very ordinary guys named Peter and John. Now, the truth about Peter and John is that they had spent three years with Jesus. They decided to follow Jesus. And as they did, they listened to him. They learned from him. They watched him perform miracles. They heard what he taught them. They watched him as he was arrested, tried, and crucified. They saw him die, and then they saw him resurrected. They saw him ascend into heaven. And then once he returned to his throne, they couldn't help but keep living for him. Well, one day they decided to go to the temple to pray. And as they did, they passed by a man who was on the ground sitting there, who is known for having been lame since birth. And that man called out to them and said, Will you help me? Will you do something for me? And Peter and John replied, We don't have any money that we can give you, but we can do something really special for you in the name of Jesus. And they said to the man, Rise up and walk. And that man, for the first time in his entire life, well, he stood up and he walked. Quite the crowd gathered as this happened. Words spread very quickly, and it became an amazing opportunity that Peter and John rose up with boldness and began sharing Jesus. Well, as Peter gave the path to salvation, the religious leaders felt threatened. They arrested Peter and John and they hauled them before the Sanhedrin, the very same council that had condemned Jesus. And the goal was simple. They wanted to shut Peter and John up. But instead of cowering in fear, Peter, who was filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke up with stunning courage, declaring that the man was healed in the name of Jesus Christ and that salvation is found in none other than in Christ himself. And as he said that, it sets the stage for one of the most powerful statements in Scripture, which is found next in Acts chapter 4, verse 13, which happens to be our theme verse for this conversation. It says, The leaders saw how bold Peter and John were. They also realized that Peter and John were ordinary men with no training. This surprised the leaders. They realized that these men had been with Jesus. Something about Peter and John shocked the leaders. You see, Peter and John, they weren't educated, they weren't professionally trained, they weren't rich, they weren't well-to-do, they were just plain, ordinary fishermen. And yet the council saw something about them that was unmistakable. They were filled with boldness and courage because undeniably they had been with Jesus. This, my friend, is exactly what the Family Disciple Me Ministry exists to do. The mission of Family Disciple Me is to help all of us be filled with boldness and courage as we spend time with Jesus ourselves. The mission of Family Disciple Me is to catalyze ordinary common Christians through devotion-driven discipleship so that we can have meaningful, intentional conversations with those that God has entrusted to us. We do this through something that's really simple, a rhythm that is biblical, that's easy to follow, that's a pattern that we can live throughout all of our lives. And it's this it's four words. Seek him, speak him. Say that with me. It's so simple. Seek him, speak him. You see, we spend time with Jesus. We meet with God, and then we turn around and we make him known. This is the rhythm that transformed Peter and John. And friend, I believe that this is the rhythm that transforms our lives as well. I welcome you into this journey and I hope that this rhythm of seek him, speak him becomes a part of every single one of our lives, our lifestyles, our testimonies, and what we are known for. Thing is, I don't know about you, but most of us are pretty ordinary. Most of us are not super impressive, none of us are overly influential, we're probably not rich. We can definitely identify with Peter and John, just two common guys, just two ordinary people. And yet what we see through their story is that God uses ordinary people. He used fishermen to impact the world for Jesus. And God still uses ordinary men and women like you, like me, today, as we meet with God and make him known, as we seek him and as we speak him. And as we do that, as we lean into spending time with Jesus, well, that is what fills us with the courage, the boldness, and the clarity to have spiritual influence. And well, this is what we want our lives to be known for, right? And well, this is something that we can be known for as we spend time with Jesus and then we boldly tell others about him. You know, ever since I was in middle school, my life verse has been Philippians chapter one, verse 20. And really, it ties in perfectly with our theme verse from Acts chapter 4, verse 13, because it speaks to the courage and the boldness that comes out of spending time with Christ, a courage and a boldness that overflows into the lives of those around us. Philippians chapter 1, verse 20 says this: according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. You know, this verse is my personal pursuit. I want to live with courage for Christ no matter what is happening in my life, no matter what the pressure, no matter what the scrutiny, no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the responsibilities or the challenges, I want to have courage for Jesus throughout every day of my life. Courage for Jesus that impacts today and resonates into eternity. And friend, if you're still here with me in this episode right now, I believe that this is true about you as well. You want to be known for having spent time with Jesus. And what's more, you want to make him known through your life. Thing is, this doesn't just happen accidentally. Seeking Jesus is something that must be a very intentional part of our life's rhythm. And this is where the Family Disciple Me Ministry comes alongside all of us to encourage, equip, and empower all of us in this journey. You see, really what we need to do is we need to lean into the Lord. We want to listen to his voice, we want to linger in his presence. And then it's out of that that we can lead others closer to him. Seek him, speak him, comes through this rhythm of opening scripture, of talking to the Lord, of asking him questions, of listening to his voice. The family disciple me devotion-driven discipleship guide that goes along with this episode is going to guide all of us through this very rhythm. Seek him, speak him, with some questions in between, like, God, what are you saying through this scripture? God, why does this scripture matter for my life? God, how do you want me to respond to this truth? We lean in, we listen, we linger in his presence. And then out of that, we're able to lead those precious ones that he's entrusted to us closer to him through meaningful, intentional discipleship conversations. And oh, friend, these conversations, they don't have to be forced. They don't have to be difficult. They don't have to be long. They don't have to be something that you come into with a script. These conversations are the overflow of your relationship with Jesus. You see, when you spend time with him, when you seek him, you can't help but turn around and speak him just like Peter and John did. They spent time with Jesus. That overflowed into how they shared him with the lame man, with those that they encountered, with the city who was watching, even the negative spiritual leaders and the opposition that was coming against them. They had boldness and courage because they personally encountered the God of the universe. And here's the thing: if seek him, speak him becomes a rhythm in your life, the same thing is going to become true of you. And so I go back to the question that we started this podcast with. What are you known for? But then let me follow that up with another question. What do you want to be known for this week? And then maybe let me reshape that question one more time. What will you be known for this week? Will you be known for somebody who spends time with Jesus? I challenge you. Once this episode is over, it's not about what I say to you, it's about what he says to you. So I challenge you, go from this into the devotion-driven discipleship guide. Take a look at the theme verse in this particular conversation. Spend time going through that guide and ask God what he wants to say to you through that conversation. And then as you seek him, turn around and speak him. Because here's the thing: God uses ordinary people. He uses common folks like me, maybe like you. Maybe those of us we're not influential, we're not impressive, we don't have it all going on, we don't have a million followers, we don't have the most amazing everything about our lives. But we do have a willingness to spend time with Jesus. We do have a desire to meet with God and make him known. We do have a mindset that's willing to live by the rhythm of seek him, speak him. So, friend, I encourage you in this. Go with God today. Lean in, listen to his voice, linger in his presence. I can't wait to see you back here in our next episode as we talk more about the overflow of a life that seeks him. But for right now, oh friend, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face shine upon you. May the Lord be gracious to you, and may He give you peace as you set your heart, your soul, your eyes on Him, living by the rhythm of being in His presence. Until next time, go with God. Be encouraged.
