DESTINATION DECISIONS | Convo #1: Introduction
You’re not standing still; you’re already on a path, and every decision you make is taking you somewhere. This is true for you and for every person entrusted to you. If every decision is a step, then where are your steps taking you?
In this opening conversation of "Destination Decisions," we turn to the wisdom of our theme verse Proverbs 4:18–19, where Scripture draws a clear contrast between two paths: one bright and increasingly clear, the other dark and disorienting. Every day, whether we realize it or not, we are choosing which path to walk—and every choice is moving us somewhere.
This episode invites listeners to slow down and consider how daily decisions shape spiritual direction. Through the Seek Him Speak Him framework, we begin by meeting with God in His Word, asking three simple but powerful questions: What is God saying? Why does it matter? How should we respond? Scripture becomes more than something we read—it becomes a lamp for our feet and a light for our path.
Jesus said He is the Light of the world, and following Him changes how we walk. Instead of stumbling forward in uncertainty, we learn how to choose a well-lit path marked by truth, wisdom, and faithfulness. These conversations are designed to be practical, repeatable, and accessible—meant to move easily from personal devotion into meaningful discipleship moments with kids, grandkids, students, or friends.
As we consider our own direction, we’re also invited to bring others along. Discipleship begins with a conversation, and every path is an invitation.
The question isn’t whether you’re on a path. The question is: which destination are your decisions leading you toward?

Where do you want to go in life? You know, where you want to go has everything to do with the path you take to get there. This is true for simple things like daily errands. It's also true for, well, big things like family vacations and road trips. How much more so is this true for life? Welcome to the Family Disciple Me podcast. Hi, my name is Tasha Williams. In this episode, we're introducing a conversation series we're calling Destination Decisions. Let's talk to the next generation about where they want to end up so that we can discuss the steps we make and the paths we take. This episode goes along with a devotion-driven discipleship conversation that can be found in the Family Disciple Me app. Each conversation guide begins with Scripture, then guides us through the questions what, why, and how as we seek Him, speak Him. Devotion is about meeting with God personally, then discipleship is about making Him known. This podcast is designed to encourage us in this journey, so let's get started right now. One of my family's favorite pastimes has been going on big trips together. We actually did this about every other year for many years, and we called it the big trip. Though when my kids were really little, we called it the big tip. We would get in our car with all the car seats and suitcases and little potties and televisions and everything we could possibly shove into whatever vehicle we were driving at the time. Then we would set out from home and oftentimes we would drive two to three thousand miles on one of our big trips. We would stay with friends and family members along the way, and often we would go to so many different states and so many different cities. Those years, those trips, are some of my family's greatest memories together. But here's the thing, we never set out on our adventures without having a goal for our destinations along the way. We always had a plan. It was usually a flexible plan, but it was a plan. We knew where our first stop would be and where our second stop would probably be. We knew where we wanted to end up on day ten, we knew on which day of the trip we needed to start turning back toward home, and then we knew on which day we wanted to arrive back to home base. We had a plan for our destinations so that we knew how we were going to get to where we wanted to be along the way. As we start this conversation series, that's exactly what we want to talk about. And not just on a vacation or a big trip level, we want to talk about these decisions about destinations as it applies to our lives. Every day we encounter decision-making moments where we want to consider not just where we are in the moment, but where we want to end up. We want to consider these things for our own lives, but we also, even more importantly, want to talk to the next generation about these decisions too. You know, the book of Proverbs, especially the first nine chapters, is this sort of conversation that a father had with his son. The father was King Solomon. I'm not exactly sure who the son was, but Solomon was trying to lay before his son the ideas of destinations, such as, son, if you go this way, it'll lead you to this, or if you go this way, it'll lead you to that. And that's exactly what we're going to do in this conversation series. We're going to talk about destination decisions like truth and lies. What destination does truth lead us to versus where does the path of lies lead us? We're also going to talk about things like purity and scars. Where does the path of purity lead us versus where does the path of scars lead? We're going to talk about destinations like good versus evil, right versus wrong, bad habits versus good health. We're going to lay these and other choices in juxtaposition to one another so that we can see the destinations where these steps take us. Every choice we make sets a trajectory in one way or another to a destination. So what decisions are we going to make along the way? One of my favorite verses in Scripture is found in Proverbs four hundred eighteen, which says The path of the righteous is like the first light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. This path that is set in the light of God's word and wisdom of good choices, it continues to be brighter and clearer all along the way. I should add, however, that verse nineteen of this passage continues The way of the wicked is like deep darkness. They do not know over what they stumble. What a contrast, a bright, well lit path or a dark path full of stumbling blocks. It's this idea of destinations that I want us to consider in our own devotions and then linger in discipleship with our kids, our grandkids, or whoever it is that God has entrusted to us. With these devotion-driven discipleship conversations, we first consider what God is saying to us through his word, why it matters to him, and how he wants us to respond to his truth. Out of this time seeking him, then he wants us to speak him into the next generation, into those that he has entrusted to us. In our conversations that come out of this, we want to encourage our people toward the destinations where God is leading. He is leading us toward truth. He leads us toward purity. He leads us toward what is good, what is right, what is loving, what is healthy. God has so much in store for us. And yes, the path of the righteous is the path where He leads us. And it is a path that shines brighter and brighter until the full break of day. I hope that as we go through this conversation series, that you'll have intentional conversations with those God has entrusted to you. And let me just add, these conversations don't have to be complex. They don't need to be intimidating or a sit-down Bible study with somebody for 35 minutes. These are simple little conversations along life's way. Just like you personally seek Him by considering the three questions of what, why, and how, then you can begin to speak Him by guiding someone else through those very same conversations about the given scripture and topic. Also, one thing that I really love about this particular conversation series is that all the scripture verses are short and easily memorable. So I challenge you to memorize these simple scripture verses of each conversation along the way and then help those entrusted to you to memorize these verses as well as you engage in conversations about this. One simple way that you can do this in your own personal life or to help your kids or those entrusted to you is simply write out the scripture verse on something like an index card or a piece of paper or a post-it note or even type it up in your text, and then you'll have quick, easy reference to this scripture conversation. All this in mind as we springboard into this series, starting with Proverbs 418, this is the perfect moment to welcome someone else into the conversation as the sun rises and the day begins and we set out on life's journey. The path of the righteous is like the first light of dawn which shines brighter and brighter until full day. You know there are so many paths that are set before us. There are so many different ways that lead to so many different destinations. Along the way, let's lean into the Lord. Let's meet with Him and then let's make Him known by intentionally talking not just about where we're physically going or what we're physically doing, let's also talk about what life paths we want to take and where we want to end up. Let's use this as an opportunity to talk about destinations in life. Finally, as you travel this path of conversations in your own personal walk and with those God has entrusted to you, I want to pray, Psalm 25 verse 4, as a blessing over you. Oh Lord, will you show us your ways? Will you teach us your paths as we set our hearts to follow you and your word? Amen. Now be encouraged, friend. Go with God and enjoy the journey.
