The Family Disciple Me Podcast // Discipleship Starts With a Conversation

Guarding Our Hearts Shamar Style

Tosha Williams, the Family Disciple Me Team and Special Guests Season 1 Episode 20

God wants us to guard our hearts because they affect everything we say, think, feel and do. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." In other words, protect your heart, watch over it, be diligent about it! But, what does it look like to guard our hearts?

In this podcast, Tosha Williams, founder of Family Disciple Me, shares a simple story about a cow named Shamar on her family’s farm.  Being a “shamar” - a guard - isn’t just about keeping the wrong influences, beliefs, emotions and ideas out - it’s about allowing the right truths and treasures in.

So much is coming at our heart’s right now - through social media, the news, the statistics, politics… but we aren’t victims of it all. We are the guards of our own hearts - and we are also the gatekeepers of what comes at the hearts of those entrusted to us. We get to disciple the next generation about guarding their hearts, too. Remember, "Discipleship Starts with a Conversation!"
